Examination Malpractice: Sanctions Approved
Following investigations into reported irregularities during the conduct and marking of the exam, the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners' Appointment Committee for BECE 2026 — held Tuesday, July 21, 2026 — approved the following sanctions:
- 496 candidates — Subject Results cancelled
- 105 candidates — Entire Results cancelled
- 119 candidates — Subject Results withheld
- 48 candidates — Entire Results withheld
In addition, subject results for 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld pending further scrutiny. WAEC says these withheld results will be either cancelled or released based on the outcome of ongoing investigations, expected to conclude by August 31, 2026.
Caution Against Fraudsters
WAEC is warning candidates, parents, and schools to be wary of fraudsters who promise to "upgrade" results for a fee. The Council reiterates that WAEC results are secured and can be independently authenticated — there is no legitimate way to pay for a result change.
The release was signed by John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, on behalf of the Council (Ref: WAEC/PRO.PRESSVOL.4/27), who thanked the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, and examiners for their support throughout the exam and results process.
