GES Teacher Promotion Letters to Be Dispatched from August 15, 2026

By Admin · July 28, 2026

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued an update for teachers who passed the promotion examination, confirming that work on the promotion letters is currently underway and setting out clear dates for when those letters — and the accompanying salary adjustments — should arrive.

In short: promotion letters go out to Regional Education Directorates from August 15, 2026, and qualified teachers should be on their new salary scales by August 31, 2026.

What the GES Notice Says

The release (Ref: GES/HQ/PR/26/149), dated July 28, 2026, sets out four points:

What This Means for You

If you sat and passed the promotion examination, there is no separate application or follow-up step described in this notice — the letters are being prepared centrally and pushed down through your Regional Directorate. The practical implication is that your letter will come to you through your regional office rather than directly from headquarters, so it is worth staying in touch with your district or regional directorate as mid-August approaches.

The second date matters just as much as the first. Placement on the appropriate scale by August 31 is what actually changes your salary, and it follows the letters rather than arriving with them. Teachers who receive a letter in the second half of August should therefore expect the financial side to reflect shortly afterwards rather than immediately.

Keep a personal copy of your promotion letter once it reaches you. It is the document you will need if any query arises later about your rank or your placement on the salary scale.

The notice was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES headquarters in Accra.
